Benjamin Tasker Middle School: Facts, TAG Center and Boundaries

Benjamin Tasker Middle on Collington Road is one of the PGCPS TAG Centers for grades 6 to 8. Here is what that means, what PGCPS publishes about the school, and how to confirm a house is zoned to it.

Benjamin Tasker Middle School is a PGCPS Talented and Gifted Center for grades 6 to 8, which means some students there were placed by lottery while others simply live inside its boundary. Those are two different paths, and buyers mix them up constantly.

The school at 4901 Collington Road carries a name from Belair's colonial history: Benjamin Tasker Sr. bought the Belair land with Samuel Ogle in 1737, and his daughter Anne later married Ogle. Here are the facts PGCPS publishes, with no ratings attached.

What does "TAG Center" mean at Benjamin Tasker?

PGCPS runs three TAG models: TAG in the regular classroom, pull-out instruction of at least two hours a week, and full TAG Centers. Benjamin Tasker is a center for grades 6 to 8. Students who meet PGCPS TAG criteria may apply through the lottery on a space available basis, and PGCPS says placement is based on the student's address. Transportation is provided for lottery placements.

The 2026 to 2027 lottery window runs November 2, 2026 through March 12, 2027. Private and homeschooled students must be screened and meet the criteria before the lottery deadline. Living inside the Tasker boundary does not by itself place a student in the center program.

What other programs does the school list?

  • AVID (Advancement Via Individual Determination), a college readiness program.
  • Junior Achievement Finance Park, a personal finance simulation.
  • A dedicated TAG coordinator on staff.

Countywide specialty programs and their application dates are in our Bowie schools guide.

Which addresses are zoned to Benjamin Tasker?

Middle school lines in Bowie do not follow ZIP codes, city limits or subdivision names, and they were redrawn after the PGCPS Board vote of November 10, 2022. Enter the exact address in the PGCPS School Finder and read the middle school assignment. PGCPS School Boundaries can be reached at 301-952-6300 or school.boundaries@pgcps.org.

How do I read Benjamin Tasker's state report card?

Search "Benjamin Tasker" on the Maryland School Report Card site under Prince George's County. Middle school stars come from academic achievement, academic progress, English language proficiency progress, and school quality and student success, converted from percentage of points earned (five stars at 75% or more, four at 60% or more).

Because a center program draws students from a wider area, look at the subgroup and indicator detail rather than a single headline number. MSDE released 2024 to 2025 results on November 4, 2025 and has said a new rating system may begin in 2026 to 2027.
