Pools in Bowie, MD: Swim Clubs, HOA Pools and Homes With Pools

The City of Bowie runs an ice arena, a skate park and 11 named parks, but its parks list does not include a city-run swimming pool. Summer swimming here runs through member-owned swim clubs, most of them founded in the 1960s alongside the Levitt sections, plus HOA pools in newer subdivisions and county splash parks a short drive away.

That changes how you should shop. A pool membership is a separate decision with its own dues, and the closest club to a house is not always one you can join. Here is what exists, where it is, and how to buy a house with a pool without surprises.

Which swim clubs serve Bowie?

Four member clubs hold seasonal pool permits from Prince George's County with Bowie addresses. All are private, members and guests only, and none posts its full rate card on a public page, so call or email each club for the current season's dues and any bond or initiation fee.

Belair Swim and Racquet opened its 2026 season on May 23, Memorial Day weekend, with evening hours until 9 or 10 p.m. Whitehall's site notes that members pay annual dues and invites anyone who skipped 2026 to ask about 2027.

Which HOA and community pools are in the Bowie area?

The county's most recent published list of active seasonal pool permits shows a long list of association pools with Bowie addresses. These are usually limited to owners and tenants in that association, with access built into your dues.

Newer communities build the pool into the plan. South Lake, at Routes 214 and 301, has a clubhouse with a resort-style pool and splash pad. Lennar's Heritage Condos at Beechfield Manors, a 55+ active adult condo community in 20720, has a pool and clubhouse. The Country Club at Woodmore has a full size pool and a wading pool for club members.

Where are the public pools near Bowie?

Bowie has no public pool inside city limits, so the closest public options are run by M-NCPPC, Prince George's County Parks and Recreation.

Glenn Dale Splash Park, on Glenn Dale Boulevard in Glenn Dale (301-352-8980), is the nearest outdoor option for most Bowie addresses: an outdoor pool with a water slide, a splash pad, picnic shelters, a snack bar and trail access. In 2026 the county's outdoor pools opened weekends starting Saturday, May 23, then moved to daily sessions in June, with two sessions a day (noon to 3 p.m. and 3:30 to 6:30 p.m., later on Wednesdays and Fridays). The county's 2026 release listed admission at $6 for adults and $5 for youth and seniors, with a discount for booking online up to 10 days ahead.

Theresa Banks Memorial Aquatics Center, 8615 McLain Avenue, Glenarden (301-772-5515), is the year-round indoor choice: lap lanes, a hot tub, swim lessons and water fitness, opening at 6 a.m. on weekdays.

A backyard pool in Bowie is a bigger due diligence item than most buyers expect. Here is the checklist we run:

• Permits. Inside the City of Bowie, many projects need both a county permit and a City permit. Ask the seller for the permit and final inspection records for the pool, fence and any deck, and check the county's permit history. An unpermitted pool can surface during your inspection or an appraisal.
• A separate pool inspection. A standard home inspection often excludes the pool, pump, heater and plumbing. Hire a pool specialist.
• Season timing. If you buy between October and April, the pool is likely closed and covered. Negotiate a repair credit, an escrow holdback or a warranty instead of assuming it works.
• HOA rules. In an HOA, the fence height, fence style and even the pool itself may need architectural approval. Read the disclosure package; Maryland's Homeowners Association Act gives you 5 calendar days to cancel after you receive it.
• Insurance. Tell your insurer before settlement. A pool changes your liability coverage and sometimes your premium.
• Lot size. Original Levitt lots in the Belair sections were about 8,400 square feet. If you plan to add a pool, confirm the setbacks and the location of the sewer lateral before you write the offer.

How does a pool fit the Bowie budget?

The median Bowie sale was $500,000 across 598 closed sales, with a median of 19 days on market (Bright MLS data, April to September 2026). Pool homes are a small slice of that, so there is no simple per-pool premium.
