Long Ridge, Bowie: The Levitt L Streets, Homes and Schools

Long Ridge is one of the fifteen Levitt-built Belair sections, built 1964 to 1965. Every street here starts with L. Here is what to know before you buy or sell.

Where is Long Ridge?

Long Ridge is a Belair section inside City of Bowie limits, backing up to MD 197 on its west side. The City places it in Council District 2 (listed by the City as Longridge). Streets all start with the letter L, which is how you can tell the section from an address. See the full Belair section guide for how all fifteen fit together.

What kind of homes are in Long Ridge?

Levitt and Sons built Long Ridge between 1964 and 1965 as part of Belair at Bowie. Homes are detached houses from the original Levitt models, mostly Cape Cods, ramblers and colonials, and many have been expanded or updated since. Two homes on the same street can be very different inside, so compare additions, updates and lot size, not just the model. Our Levitt homes guide covers the models.

Which schools serve Long Ridge?

Assignment is by address, not by section name, and elementary and middle school lines can split a neighborhood. Check the exact house in the PGCPS School Finder before you write an offer, and compare all Bowie schools by level.

What should buyers check in Long Ridge?

  • Water. Long Ridge is on the City of Bowie water system, not WSSC. The City lists it among the neighborhoods its water plant serves, a system the Levitt Corporation built in the early 1960s. See the City water service page.
  • City taxes. Long Ridge is inside City of Bowie limits, so homes pay the City property tax on top of the Prince George’s County rate. Our property tax explainer walks through the math.
  • HOA or civic association. Ask what dues cover and whether there are rules on fences, sheds or additions.

What Long Ridge homes sell for

Long Ridge isn’t broken out in our sold-price table yet, so the honest comparison is the Belair sections around it. From October 2024 through September 2026, Bright MLS closed sales put Meadowbrook at a $495,000 median across 59 sales and Kenilworth at $486,000 across 59. The Bowie-wide median for January to September 2026 was $505,000.

Use those as a starting point, not an answer. A Levitt house with a finished addition and a newer kitchen can sell well above them, and an original house that needs work can sell well below. See sold prices for every Bowie neighborhood we track.

What to check in a 1960s Levitt house

  • Lead paint disclosure. Every Long Ridge house was built before 1978. Federal law requires the seller to disclose any known lead-based paint and gives you up to 10 days to have the home tested, unless you waive that in writing.
  • Original systems. Ask the age of the roof, HVAC, water heater and electrical panel, and whether the plumbing has been replaced. At 60 years old, two houses built the same month can be in very different shape.
  • Additions and permits. Many Levitt houses have been expanded. Ask the seller for the permits on any addition, porch or finished space. Our Bowie building permits guide explains who issues them.

How Long Ridge fits into Belair

Levitt and Sons opened Belair at Bowie to buyers on October 8, 1960, and by 1963 more than 2,000 houses were occupied. The town of Bowie annexed the Levitt land and reincorporated as a city in 1963, which is why the Belair sections, Long Ridge included, sit inside City limits today. Long Ridge came late in the build-out, in 1964 and 1965.
