Golf Course Homes in Bowie, MD
Bowie owns its own 18 hole course, a private club anchors Woodmore, and one former course is turning back into forest. Here is what each means for buyers.
The City of Bowie has owned its own 18 hole golf course at 7420 Laurel Bowie Road (MD 197) since 1981, and right next to it the City broke ground on October 28, 2025 for a $22 million, 49,000 square foot ice arena due to open in early 2027. Ten minutes south, a private club with a 1923 pedigree anchors one of the most expensive pockets of the Bowie market.
Golf course living in Bowie is not one product. It is a city-run public course, a private club at the center of Woodmore, a county course on a former dairy farm, and one former course that is turning back into forest. Here is what each means for a buyer.

What is the Bowie Golf Course like to live near?
The Bowie Golf Course sits on Laurel Bowie Road (MD 197) inside city limits. The City's development outline lists the golf property at about 130 acres. Because it is City land, you will not see the course sold off for a subdivision without a public process, and that matters for long-term views.
The new ice arena is going up at 7800 Laurel Bowie Road, on City land beside the course and across from Rockledge Elementary School. Plans call for one NHL size rink with spectator seating, five team locker rooms, a pro shop and concessions, with room for a second sheet later. Expect construction traffic on MD 197 through 2026 and event traffic after it opens.
The closest residential sections are Levitt-era neighborhoods along MD 197. Whitehall, built between 1964 and 1968, posted a median sale of $520,000 on 12 sales (Bright MLS data, April to September 2026), and the Whitehall Shopping Center sits next to the course at 7410 Laurel Bowie Road. Rockledge, another section from the same era, is on City of Bowie water and sewer. See our Whitehall page for section details.
What about Woodmore?
Woodmore is an unincorporated Census-designated place in Prince George's County built around the Country Club at Woodmore, and it shares Bowie ZIP codes. The club's history runs deep: it began in 1923 as Beaver Dam Golf and Country Club, became Prince George's Golf and Country Club in 1941, and moved to Woodmore after M-NCPPC bought the original course in 1979. The current course, designed by Arnold Palmer and Ed Seay, opened in 1981. The club hosted the 1949 U.S. Women's Open, won by Louise Suggs, at its earlier location.
Today the club offers a full size pool and a wading pool, three tennis courts and indoor and outdoor dining. In Bright MLS data, April to September 2026, homes in the Woodmore subdivision closed at a median of $630,000 on 16 sales, with a median of 29 days on market, slower than Bowie's 19 day overall median. That pace is typical of higher price points with a thinner pool of buyers, and it gives a prepared buyer room to negotiate. See the Woodmore page.
Much of Woodmore is outside city limits, where owners pay the county rate with no City of Bowie tax, get county trash service and are covered by Prince George's County Police; Woodmore Estates and Woodmore Highlands are City neighborhoods. Our city limits guide explains the difference line by line.
Enterprise and the old Lake Arbor course
Enterprise Golf Course is a public M-NCPPC course in Mitchellville, built in 1976 on land that was the Newton White dairy farm. Homes in the surrounding Mitchellville area closed at a median of $649,900 on 7 sales (Bright MLS data, April to September 2026), a small sample to treat as a signal rather than a rule. See the Mitchellville page.
Lake Arbor is the cautionary tale. Its course closed in 2010 after foreclosure. In March 2026, M-NCPPC announced the land is being rewilded into an urban forest park, with more than 10,340 native trees planted and a restoration phase running from July 2025 through June 2030. Plans include trails, community gardens and a nature-based playground. For homes along the old fairways, the view is changing from turf to woods, not to rooftops.
A golf course home checklist
- Ownership of the course. City, county or private? Private courses can change hands or close; Lake Arbor did.
- Stray balls. Look for dents in siding, patched windows and netting. Ask the seller directly and read the disclosure.
- Easements and plats. Check the recorded plat for golf or drainage easements along the rear lot line before you plan a fence or pool.
- Jurisdiction. Bowie Golf Course is inside the city; much of Woodmore and all of Enterprise are not. That changes your tax bill, trash and police.
- HOA. Golf communities usually have mandatory associations. Maryland's Homeowners Association Act gives you 5 calendar days to cancel after you receive the disclosure package.
- Event traffic. Tournaments, weddings at the clubhouse and, near Laurel Bowie Road, the future ice arena all bring cars.
How golf communities compare on price
All figures are Bright MLS data, April to September 2026. Bowie's four ZIP codes recorded a $500,000 overall median on 598 sales. Woodmore came in at $630,000, Mitchellville at $649,900 and Whitehall at $520,000. Above $700,000 there were 80 sales across the whole market. Our luxury homes page breaks that segment down, and the Bowie market report has the full numbers.
